I always found it frustrating that every time the battery is disconnected, the factory clock has to be set manually again. It’s a small thing, but over time it became surprisingly annoying.
So I decided to build a simple modification that automatically sets the correct date and time using a GPS module.
Yes — it’s probably overkill, but it’s cheap, reliable, and works perfectly ![]()
The setup uses two displays and a GPS receiver as the time source. Thanks to GPS synchronization, the clock always shows the correct time after reconnecting the battery — no user input required. Even when driving across time zones (for example, to the USA), the time remains accurate.
Key features:
-
Automatic date and time via GPS
-
No manual adjustment after battery disconnect
-
Plug & play installation
-
OEM-like appearance
-
Dark plexiglass front to match the factory interior
The final result looks very close to stock, but adds modern functionality that the original clock never had. A small upgrade, but one that significantly improves everyday usability.
Happy to share more details if anyone is interested.
