Since 2010, I have been running the official website for Toyota MR2 Club Poland as one of its core members. The platform brings together enthusiasts of one of Toyota’s most unique creations — the MR2.
MR2 stands for Mid-Engine, Rear-Wheel Drive, 2-Seater — a bold and unconventional move by Toyota between the late 1980s and early 2000s, designed as an affordable sports car for younger drivers. Over the years, it has become an iconic model with a loyal community worldwide.
A Personal Journey
Being involved with the club sparked my passion for classic cars and a deep appreciation for the MR2. I personally own two MR2s — a 1993 model and a 2003 model — making this project both technical and deeply personal. It was also the beginning of my programming journey, which started with maintaining and developing the club’s online presence.
Forum Evolution
The community forum originally ran on phpBB2 and later migrated to phpBB3, keeping up with growing content and membership. However, after many years of operation, the community had grown significantly, and the old phpBB3 engine was showing its age. Members wanted a modern, feature-rich platform — and so the forum was redeveloped on Discourse, bringing it up to date with today’s standards for usability, security, and engagement.
Over the years, my responsibilities included:
-
Server maintenance and hosting
-
Forum upgrades and migrations
-
Technical administration and troubleshooting
-
Supporting and growing the community
The club continues to be a central hub for Polish MR2 enthusiasts, supporting discussions, technical advice, events, and knowledge sharing.
